HR head Alison Mincey’s behind-the-wheel video podcast lets UM leaders share how they strive to make a difference

lison Mincey, shown here with Dr. Dipen J. Parekh, said the goal of the HR on the Move podcast series is to “provide opportunity for connection and communication.”

Alison Mincey, J.D., senior vice president and chief human resources officer for the University of Miami, has launched a podcast series, and it’s called HR on the Move for good reason — her conversations with other UM leaders take place on camera, in her car. The goal, she said, is to “provide opportunity for connection and communication.”

Her first guest was Dipen J. Parekh, M.D., founding director of Desai Sethi Urology Institute, director of robotic surgery and chief operating officer of UHealth – University of Miami Health System. From the passenger seat, he spoke about what motivates him personally and professionally. His remarks have been updated and edited for clarity.

What excites him:

We just opened a major new location, UHealth Doral, which is very similar to our flagship Lennar Foundation Medical Center in Coral Gables. Next fall, we are scheduled to open another flagship, our UHealth SoLé Mia ambulatory care location in North Miami, which will be about one and a half times the size of Lennar. The care and convenience these new facilities will bring to our patients is very exciting.

Why he likes spy movies:

You’re always on the edge. In many of the spy movies, if the spies are not successful, they could be abandoned by their own country, yet they take the risk. That means they truly believe in what they are doing.

What his “why” is:

The ‘why’ of my life is to perform my duty. My personal ambition is tied to the ambitions of our health system, of our school of medicine and of our university. It starts from the simple premise of helping patients and their families and scaling my actions and decisions in a way that I leave behind an institution that is defined by excellence, is sustainable and is generational.
